A guide to healthy keto snacks: tips and ideas

When you are starting a keto lifestyle,  your body’s first goal is to optimize and adapt to ketosis.  Here are four simple rules that will guide you when selecting keto friendly snacks:

  1. Choose whole food-based snacks, preferably homemade.
  2. Minimize processed products, as they also contain additives rich in carbs.
  3. Target snacks with about 60% fat and less than 10% carbs.
  4. Use keto-approved recipes as much as possible.

Remember that it’s important to watch out your portion size even for healthy snacks, to avoid overeating, especially if you want to lose weight.  Now let’s have a look at some keto snack ideas.

  1. Peanut butter is high in fat, contains medium levels of protein and is low in carbs.
  2. Olives, choose organic olives over flavored olives which have hidden carbs.
  3. Full fat cheese, for example string cheese, cream cheese, cheddar.
  4. Canned sardines with olive oil (can also be served with a few crunchy vegetable sticks).
